Dr. Lorne Everett Receives ASTM International Technical Editors Award
By LEA Environmental, Inc. on Oct 12, 2015 at 11:11 AM in LEA Announcements

Dr. Lorne G. Everett was presented the ASTM International Technical Editors Award by Dr. Jack T Germaine, the Chairman of the ASTM Soil and Rock Committee (D18). The Award was presented during the Annual ASTM International Meeting held in June 2015 in Anaheim, California. The Award recognizes the book: Continuous Soil Gas Measurements: Worst Case Risk Parameters (ASTM Special Technical Publication STP 1570) edited by Dr. Everett and Dr. Mark Kram. This volume assembled papers from an earlier international symposium that was also co-chaired by Drs. Everett and Kram. The book is seen as an important contribution to the field of vapor intrusion because it is the first volume to focus on the dynamic behavior of soil gas and its effect on vapor intrusion.

Congratulations to Dr. Petrisor on her new book: Environmental Forensics Fundamentals - A Practical Guide

Congratulations to Dr. Petrisor on her new book: Environmental Forensics Fundamentals - A Practical Guide
By LEA Environmental, Inc. on Jul 28, 2014 at 12:27 PM in Environmental Litigation

L. Everett & Associates (LEA) is pleased to note a wonderful new book from our friend and colleague, Ioana Petrisor, PhD. The book, titled, Environmental Forensics Fundamentals: A Practical Guide, is published by CRC Press and is available here: (http://www.amazon.com/Environmental-Forensics-Fundamentals-Practical-Guide/dp/1466571586). The role of environmental forensics is to identify and prevent environmental pollution. Dr. Petrisor serves as the Editor-In-Chief for the peer-reviewed Environmental Forensics Journal published by Taylor & Francis. In the new book, Dr. Petrisor provides an extensive review of environmental forensics techniques that will be valuable to the experienced practitioner as well as readers just getting started in this important specialty of environmental science. Dr. Petrisors new book also provides attorneys with a single, comprehensive guide summarizing the techniques that are available to solve the types of technical questions that arise in environmental litigation. LEA was pleased to contribute to this new work, including the Foreword by LEA Chief Scientist, Lorne Everett, PhD, DSc and illustrations by LEAs Principle Engineer, Jorge Matos, P.E.

New Research Reveals Shortcomings in Vapor Intrusion Investigations

By LEA Environmental, Inc. on Apr 21, 2014 at 03:57 PM in Environmental Issues

There is a growing body of research pointing to very significant temporal and spatial variability in vapor intrusion, which is a contaminant transport mechanism that can lead to the occurrence of toxic chemicals in indoor air. Current sampling protocols, as recommended by many environmental regulatory agencies will not adequately characterize such dynamic behavior, possibly leading to flawed decision-making regarding the risks posed by vapor intrusion.

Metals in the Environment: Innovative Approach for Determining Whether Metals in Soil and Sediments are Naturally Occurring or Man-Made

Metals in the Environment: Innovative Approach for Determining Whether Metals in Soil and Sediments are Naturally Occurring or Man-Made
By LEA Environmental, Inc. on Mar 28, 2014 at 06:28 PM in LEA Announcements, Environmental Issues

LEAs Bill Schaal, PG, recently made a presentation related to metal element contamination to regulatory staff at the California Department of Substances Control (DTSC) in Chatsworth, California. Bill was joined Jeff Hess, PG, Technical Director of Gilbane Company. Bill and Jeff, together with colleague, Mark Sorensen, PG, are advancing the state-of-the-art within the environmental industry by applying geochemical methods to determining whether metal elements are naturally occurring or anthropogenic (man-made). The present state-of-practice within the environmental industry relies heavily on professional judgment, limited statistical analysis, and analytical methods that were developed to evaluate bioavailable compounds thus were not intended for this purpose.

A New Book on Soil Gas & Vapor Intrusion from Dr. Lorne Everett - Continuous Soil Gas Measurements: Worst Case Risk Parameters

A New Book on Soil Gas & Vapor Intrusion from Dr. Lorne Everett - Continuous Soil Gas Measurements: Worst Case Risk Parameters
By LEA Environmental, Inc. on Jan 15, 2014 at 11:05 AM in LEA Announcements

Our CEO, Dr. Lorne Everett has published a new book from ASTM, "Continuous Soil Gas Measurements: Worst Case Risk Parameters" coedited with Dr. Mark Kram of Groundswell Technologies. The book summarizes state-of-the art thinking on vapor intrusion by an international team of authors from the USA, Canada, Brazil, United Kingdom, Germany and other nations. Interest in vapor intrusion has intensified by recent studies which suggest that prevailing sampling programs may fail to fully characterize vapor intrusion problems due to extreme spatial and temporal variability of VOCs and methane at contaminated sites.
