Jim Wells, Phd, PG of L. Everett & Associates has been invited to serve on the faculty of the 38th Annual American Law Institute Environmental Litigation Seminar in Washington D.C. on June 12-14, 2013 and to speak on the topic of environmental forensics. This advanced CLE seminar is designed to assist attorneys in mastering litigation skills needed to handle CERCLA, NEPA, citizen suits, and other types of environmental litigation. The speakers include a diverse group of experts, including government officials from the Environmental Crimes Section of the Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, Office of the Deputy Attorney General, the Federal Judiciary, as well as private practitioners, environmental scientists, and representatives from public interest groups and academia.

Topics include: effectively utilizing, managing, and examining expert witnesses, evidentiary issues relating to technical data, and strategies for trying and defending environmental lawsuits, among other things. Dr. Wells will be co-presenting with the Environmental Protection Bureau Chief at the New York State Attorney General’s Office. Their presentation will focus on available and emerging scientific tools that can be applied in environmental and toxic tort disputes to help answer such questions as the date of chemical releases to soil or groundwater, environmental fate and transport in the subsurface and allocation among multiple parties.
